Sacred Assembly - September 16, 2001
Church of the Twin Cities Gathers at Metrodome

In response to the horrific attacks on our nation on September 11, the Church of the Twin Cities gathered in prayer at the Metrodome on Sunday evening, Sept. 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. seek God on behalf of our nation.

Based on the Scriptural principles of Joel 1-2, pastors and ministry leaders united in asking churches to gather in a “sacred assembly” of repentance and declaring our dependence on God. “We want the city to know,” said Rev. Steve Loopstra of Prayer Transformation Ministries, “that there is still hope in God.”

Shortly after the terrorist attacks, a group of ministry leaders knelt on the sidewalk in front of the Metrodome and asked God to allow the Church of the Twin Cities to use the Dome for united prayer. As Metrodome officials were approached with the idea, they graciously offered the Dome at no charge for the citywide prayer gathering.

The sacred assembly was organized by a team of multi-denominational, multi-racial pastors and ministry leaders from around the Twin Cities. The focus of the evening was two-fold:

  • Worship (led by the Heart of the City Worship Band),
  • Prayer on behalf of our nation, President Bush and other leaders, and those whose lives have been devastated by the terrorist attacks.
