Worship Renewal Weekends
Many times when a congregation really needs to make a change in worship, it can be most helpful to bring someone in from the outside to bring perspective and teaching that can help begin the movement in the right direction. It is for that reason that I do what I call “WORSHIP RENEWAL WEEKENDS”.
Typically on such a weekend, the host congregation or organization will begin the weekend with a Saturday afternoon worship seminar that will last anywhere from 1 ½ hours to 4 hours. This seminar will involve members of the choir, worship team and other musicians in the church. Often the pastor and elders or deacons will take part in this event as well. Many congregations have hosted these events and invited other congregations to be a part of it as well. In those situations a fee is usually charged to help pay for the weekend. After the seminar, in the evening, my wife Sandy and I will do an hour and 15 minute concert, or the Heart of the City Worship Band will do a worship concert or if we are going to lead worship the next day with the local worship team, we will rehearse with them instead. Some churches opt out of all these choices and just leave the evening open. Then, in the Sunday morning services, Sandy and I serve as guest worship leaders and sing special music. I also serve as the guest preacher and preach on the topic “Becoming a People of Worship with a Hunger for God”. This sermon challenges the congregation to change from being passive attenders to active worshippers and begin to hunger after God’s presence in their lives and church services. With this full weekend approach to renewal in worship, we are able to not only address and train the pastors and worship teams, but we are able to challenge and teach the congregation as well. Our experience over the last several years has shown this holistic approach to impacting the entire congregation has made a real significant impact in the congregations that we’ve ministered to across many denominational lines. You can request a fee schedule if you’d like to know more about costs.
